Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy
The third season of The Umbrella Academy was recently released, and both the Umbrella and Sparrow Hargreeves families went through a lot. The series pays special attention to the psychological development of its main characters, who grew up under less than ideal circumstances and who have to constantly deal with apocalyptic events.
Harry Potter, similarly follows complex characters in complicated social dynamics and the way they deal with these challenges. In a world divided by prejudice, the characters from this series also negotiate between their own interests and the interests of the world. From a different point of view, both of these stories portray intricate characters and the way they use their special abilities to save the world.
Sir Reginald Hargreeves – Albus Dumbledore
Albus Dumbledore is not only the Hogwarts headmaster, but he is also a professor and one of Harry’s father figures. Reginald is in charge of the education of his adoptive children. Both characters are extremely intelligent people who know more than they let on and tend to have ulterior motives for their actions.
Even though Dumbledore is portrayed as less of a villain than his counterpart, he raised Harry as a weapon to defeat one of the darkest wizards of all time, Voldemort. Reginald, also raised his children as a tool for his own agenda – although if it’s for the world’s good or not, it remains to be seen.
Sloane Hargreeves – Nymphadora Tonks
Sloane Hargreeves is a new character in the third season of The Umbrella Academy, and she’s quickly become one of the most beloved. Even though she’s a member of Sparrow Academy, she does not intend any harm to the Umbrella Academy members. Tonks also comes from a family with ill intentions, the Blacks, but she does not associate with them.
Just like Tonks, Sloane tends to be underestimated, but she’s also more powerful than everyone realizes. Both characters are brilliant: Sloane shows her intelligence when she creates the plan to contain the Kugelblitz, and Tonks passed with excellent grades on all of her Auror’s tests.
Ben Hargreeves (From Sparrow Academy) – Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy, as a member of one of the most prestigious families in the magical world, faces a lot of pressure. Even though he’s not really evil and has a hard time going through the plan of killing Albus Dumbledore, Draco is usually sketchy and manipulative because he wants to be an outstanding wizard.
Ben, as one of the most powerful members of Sparrow Academy, quickly assumes leadership of the group when Marcus disappears. Ben, just like Malfoy, puts a lot of pressure on himself to try to be the best and gain his father’s approval. However, even though both characters commit questionable acts, deep down they are empathetic and kindhearted people. They just need to let others see the good parts of themselves.
Luther Hargreeves – Ron Weasley
Ron Weasley is one of the most beloved characters in Harry Potter. He’s funny and kind, and though sometimes he’s insecure, he always tries to be there for his loved ones. Ron’s loyalty was crucial in Harry’s journey; even though he sometimes faltered, in the end, he always came back.
Most people disliked Luther in the first seasons, but he grew on most viewers. Luther has evolved to be a sympathetic character with a big heart and the best intentions. Just like Ron, Luther can be hilarious and, in spite of not being the smartest Hargreeves, Luther is ferociously loyal to his siblings.
Lila Pitts – Luna Lovegood
Luna has a unique outlook on the world that makes other people think she’s eccentric. Even though Luna sometimes seems to be out of touch with reality, she’s actually one of the smartest characters in Harry Potter. She’s had a hard time because of her classmates’ hostile attitudes, but she’s strong and independent in spite of that.
In a more chaotic way, Lila is also quirky and unorthodox. She refuses to follow the rules and does what she believes is right, just like her Harry Potter version. Lila is also fiercely independent, and even though she’s in a relationship with Diego, she’s never persuaded out of her stubborn ways.
Diego Hargreeves – Rubeus Hagrid
Diego and Hagrid may look like very different people, but they share an attraction to dangerous things in common. Hagrid is constantly collecting wild pets such as Norbert the dragon or Fluffy the three-headed dog. However, in spite of his threatening appearance, Hagrid is a softy on the inside and quickly becomes one of Harry’s closest friends.
Diego also has a hard time distinguishing which situations are too dangerous and he usually takes impulsive and unnecessary risks. His long hair and knives give him a threatening appearance, but Diego, like Hagrid, is a lovely person, as he showed with Stanley in the last season.
Five Hargreeves – Hermione Granger
Not only is Hermione the brightest witch her age, but she’s also one of the few people in the magical world that knows everything about time travel since she had to do it for almost a year in her third year at Hogwarts. Hermione is also pragmatic and logical, constantly trying to tackle problems on an intellectual level.
Number Five, just like his counterpart, tends to think of everything in logical terms, and he’s constantly trying to find a solution to stop the end of the world. Number Five’s unflappable wit and his capacity to time travel have allowed him to stop the end of the world three times already. He can be a bit dry, but just like Hermione, he is incredibly loyal.
Klaus Hargreeves – Sirius Black
Even though Sirius Black spent almost half of his life in jail, he did not lose his spirit. In the same way that Klaus keeps a healthy sense of humor to deal with his harsh reality, Sirius also tends to focus on the positives of life. These two characters are known for their extroverted nature and their tendency to always prioritize having a good time.
Even if Klaus gets scared in certain situations, he always pulls through and tries to save the day. Sirius is a passionate character who fights for his ideals, and so does Klaus when he manages to defeat his own demons. On top of that, both characters have a complicated relationship with death, with Sirius trespassing the veil and Klaus being able to spend time on the other side.
Allison Hargreeves – Ginny Weasley
Ginny Weasley is a strong-minded person who does not let others tell her what to do. With six older brothers, she knows exactly how to defend herself and everyone at Hogwarts is scared of her Bat-Bogey Hex. However, she’s also kind, loyal, and very protective of her friends and family.
Allison is one of the bravest characters in the TV show, but more than that, she’s also kind. She’s (almost) always there for her brother Viktor and tries to keep harmony in her family. However, Allison, like Ginny, can also be stubborn and set on her ways, which can take her to dark paths.
Viktor Hargreeves – Harry Potter
Harry and Viktor have a lot in common: both were enclosed in tiny spaces when they were kids, both are orphans, and both are more powerful than they thought. Harry grew up without knowing he was a wizard, and Viktor grew up thinking that, unlike his siblings, he did not have powers.
Furthermore, what makes Harry and Viktor special is that they’re compassionate people with a great capacity for empathy, and they are always trying to help others in vulnerable positions. Both characters have a lot on their shoulders, but they manage it as gracefully as possible.
