Since 2017, Lego Masters has spawned countless international versions, seeing Lego enthusiasts build the best structures each week to be crowned the best Lego builders. It has even seen big names like Will Arnett, Sophie Monk, Warwick Davis, and Terry Crews join in on the fun too.
But despite being one of the best feel-good reality shows on television, that does not mean it has seen reactions from audiences from controversial eliminations. Whether it was the disadvantage that some duos had in a week or believing that those who left the competition made a better Lego masterpiece, it has caused outrage that can be compared to the rage after stepping on a Lego brick.
Branko and Max
The father and son duo was introduced in season 4 of the Australian version of Lego Masters this year. They created some colorful builds along their journey in the series, from a gigantic rocket to recreating the Greek god Poseidon.
But on the seventh challenge, they lost despite their recreation of the Grand Canyon. Although they did not appear in the series for long, their elimination made everyone in the room cry, making it one of the most unexpectedly emotional exits so far in the series.
Kirsti and Dan
Another duo from season 4 of Australia’s Lego Builders, Kirsti and Dan were able to excite audiences with their elaborate builds, especially as the two never met before the show. They made some of the more experimental and bizarre projects in the series, with an astronaut overlooking the surface of a planet and an alien carnival. It’s the builds like these that have made the series one of the best-rated reality shows by Grand Prize Value.
However, they were set back on A Knight’s Quest build due to taking too much time to decide on the story and they were the fourth team to leave the competition. But that did not stop some people on platforms, such as Reddit, from sharing their frustration as some believed that they met the brief more than some other teams despite the lengthy decision time.
Michelle and Natalie
The imaginative and creative duo gained their own fanbase across season 2 on the American version of Lego Masters and it’s not hard to see why. As well as having charismatic chemistry and banter with host Will Arnett, they made some of the most imaginative and fun builds throughout the series.
Losing out for the finale in season 2, Natalie and Michelle were positioned in fourth place with the Cliffhanger challenge. Although the other teams created more elaborate builds for this challenge, the two moms gained a lot of fans across the series and some were sad to see them go.
Trent and Paul
The couple may not have been on the show for long, but they did express their imagination more so than some of the other builders in the series. Ranging from the Werewolf Wilderness Retreat to an Egyptian Archeological Site, they truly made the judge Ryan McNaught and the audience smile.
So it was sad that they would eventually become the third duo to leave season 4 of Lego Masters Australia. While fans of theirs wanted to see them in the competition to see more of their imaginative builds, they lost due to the lack of technicalities in their Gaming Grannies set. With all this creativity and drama, there’s a reason why it is one of the best shows like Domino Masters.
Zack and Wayne
Throughout season 2 of the American version of Lego Masters, brothers Zack and Wayne created some eye-popping and massive builds to secure themselves time and time again in the competition. With a miniature dragon carnival set to a towering skyscraper, the siblings managed to stay until the finale.
But when they lost the top spot to Mark and Steven, fans online were quick to express their shock at their elimination. Whether posting their feelings on Reddit or tweeting their fury, fans were quick to show just how disappointed they were to see the two being robbed of being crowned that year winners.
David and Gerhard
One of the duos who debuted in season 1 of Lego Masters in Australia, David and Gerhard created some of the most memorable projects and showed everyone at home just what they could do. Easily one of their greatest feats was the massive bridge that took 88kg of weight before it collapsed (however, it certainly did make for a memorable moment and certainly challenged some of the most creative builds from the American series).
But they never won the series, becoming runners-up to Henry and Cade. The online backlash for the finale was so great that it was even written about in a number of online articles from Australian newspapers, sourcing many Twitter reactions that showed the fury that this feel-good series created.
Caleb and Jacob
Joining the other teams in season 2 of the American version of the series, Jacob and Caleb made some of the most peculiar and yet visually amazing Lego builds to date. Throughout the series, they built an operational puppet, an impressive truck, and a detailed animal sculpture.
Like Zack and Wayne, these two brothers were among the hopefuls to take the prize money and the trophy for this year’s competition, especially after their build for the Day and Night Challenge. But despite the concept of the hourglass for this challenge, the two became third and some fans were shocked, expressing their views online and led to unpopular opinions on Reddit.
Tim and Danni
Tim and Dannii were among the memorable new teammates to join season 2 of the Australian version of this construction series. Among their works included a hanging Angler fish, a cute explosive alien, and a seemingly indestructible tower of popcorn. They made creative and technical builds that secured them each week.
Losing out to the finale and coming in fourth place, couple Tim and Dannii lost out to the Night and Day challenge. Creating an impressive UFO hidden within a warehouse, they lost out due to the technical failure that would have secured them the top spot despite creating an already impressive build.
Summer and Iona
The best friends joined the Australian version of Lego Masters During season 2 and despite their short time on the show, they created some imaginative and fun builds. Their exploding Secret Lair Council caused much laughter among the other contestants that the two could not help but join in.
But during the One Hanging Brick challenge, Summer felt unwell, leaving Iona to finish constructing a piñata by herself. Despite the massive disadvantage against them, they were eliminated, shocking not just the other contestants, but the audience at home.
Mark and Boone
Among the first competitors to join the American version of this building series, Mark and Boone made it all the way to the finale and it’s not hard to see why. From magical and colorful landscapes to towering buildings, their sets have remained some of the best ever since.
And much like the other eliminations, audiences were shocked that the friends did not win the top spot. The online backlash against the judge’s decision was so great that several publications posted online articles covering the reaction from their biggest fans.
