Legends: Arceus’ Most Underrated Hisuian Pokémon

Posted on June 20, 2022 By admin No Comments on Legends: Arceus’ Most Underrated Hisuian Pokémon

With Pokémon Legends: Arceus featuring dozens of new monsters to catch, there are many underrated Hisuian Pokémon that may get overlooked by players. Released in January, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a Diamond and Pearl origin story set years into the past. The open-world RPG has players exploring the vast wilderness of the Hisui region to create what will eventually become the Sinnoh Pokédex decades in the future.

Although the game is set in ancient Sinnoh, Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduced many new Pokémon to the series for the very first time. The RPGs Pokédex included the regional Legends: Arceus Hisuian form Pokémon, as well as a handful of new evolutions lines for older generation Pokémon such as Scyther, Stantler, and Basculin.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus also had regional forms for its starter evolutions, which included Hisuian Decidueye, Hisuian Typhlosion, and Hisuian Samurott. The new variants gave the classic starters’ final evolutions a new Pokémon typing and drastically different designs. With the Hisui region featuring 22 new Pokémon in total to catch, there are several regional Pokémon that have been overshadowed by the game’s large Pokédex. Below is a list of Legends: Arceus’ most underrated Hisuian Pokémon.

Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Decidueye Is A Great Final Starter Evolution

Originally making its first appearance in 2016’s Pokémon Sun and MoonGrass-type Decidueye was one of the classic Pokémon to get a new Hisuian regional form. While the Rowlet evolution has always been popular, many players were not the biggest fans of Hisuian Decidueye’s Legends Arceus design when it was first revealed. While the new Hisuian form may not live up to its hooded-cloak design from Sun and Moon, Hisuian Decidueye is really underrated. Its new outfit in Pokémon: Legends Arceus is designed around a wandering Ronin Samurai, which is perfect for the owl archer. Hisuian Decidueye also has one of the best signature moves with its epic Triple Arrow attack. Even though its new variant may be a step down from its original Aolan model, the Hisui form deserves more love.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Electrode Is A Nice Combo Type

After making their debut in Pokémon Red and Blue in 1996, Kanto Electric-type’s Voltorb and Electrode finally got updated with new Hisiuan forms in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. In the Hisui story, players first encounter Electrode as it’s one of the Legends: Arceus Noble Pokémon that have to be quelled from its frenzied state. While most Pokémon Legends: Arceus players praised Hisuian Voltorb’s new design, some fans felt that Hisuian Electrode looked too similar to its original Gen 1 model.

Despite Hisuian Electrode not being a radical change from its Kanto roots, it has an interesting wooden body that is a neat nod to the origin of the Hisui Poké Ball featured in the game. Its angry expression also looks much more epic than the drawn-on face that it has in Pokémon Red and Blue. With it now having an incredible Electric / Grass-type moveset, the Hisuian Electrode’s typing combo makes it severely underrated.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Lilligant Is Bipedal (& That’s Okay)

In Pokémon Black and White Players can evolve Grass-type Petilil into Lilligant through the series’ Pokémon Evolution Stone mechanic. A decade after its debut, the Unova favorite made its return in Pokémon Legends: Arceus as a Hisuian form Noble Pokémon in the Crimson Mirelands. Although Hisuian Lilligant’s new design transforms it into a majestic dancer, some players dislike the Pokémon’s humanoid bi-pedal design. Looks aside though, the Gen 5 Pokémon has been made substantially more powerful as it’s now a dual-type Pokémon with Fighting moves. The new changes make Lilligant a strong Pokémon to battle with and is a major improvement over its original form.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Sneasel Is Great Redesign

Because Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a Diamond and Pearl origin story, the open-world RPG actually features the entire Sinnoh Pokédex. However, not every Gen 4 Pokémon remained the same. Sneasel, for example, received both a Hisuian form as well as a new evolution – Sneasler. In the game’s story campaign, players eventually unlock Hisuian Sneasler as a Pokémon Legends: Arceus mount.

Because of how important the new Pokémon Legends: Arceus evolution is, Hisuian Sneasel has largely been overlooked. Compared to its original Sinnoh model, Hisuian Sneasel’s new purple and lilac color scheme is a substantial improvement. Fans of the Diamond and Pearl Ice-type will not want to miss out on this regional variant, even if Hisuian Sneasler gets more attention.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Sliggoo Is Often Outshined By Its Evolution

Another Pokémon Legends: Arceus Hisuian form that gets overlooked is Sliggoo. In the open-world RPG, trainers encounter Hisuian Goodra in the mountains of the Coronet Highlands. The Kalos Dragon is one of the game’s best new designs, as the slimy Pokémon actually dives back into its shell while attacking in battle. However, Goodra’s pre-evolution Sliggoo is actually just as fascinating. In Gen 5 Pokémon X and Y, the Dragon Pokémon has a tiny shell barely noticeable on its back. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus the body of Hisuian Sliggoo is now entirely a shell, and the adorable Pokémon peeks its head out to look at opponents. The Kalos Dragon’s new design is not only an improvement, but it’s also really fascinating lore. While Hisuian Goodra is one of the Hisui region’s best Pokémon, its pre-evolution Sliggoo deserves more of a spotlight.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Enamorus Left Fans Divided Over Design

A decade after Pokémon Black and White introduced the Forces of Nature Trio, Game Freak introduced a fourth Genie named Enamorus in Pokémon: Legends Arceus. The new female Genie left fans divided, as some players hated the new Legendary Pokémon’s striking design. While its model is certainly unconventional compared to most Pokémon, many players forget that the Forces of Nature Trio Pokémon – Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, and Enamorus – have always had unconventional designs.

Not only is it neat to finally get a new member of the Forces of Nature a decade after their introduction, but Enamrous is also actually incredibly powerful. Its Fairy / Flying-type makes it especially strong against Dragon Pokémon. Because some players are not sold on its design, the new underrated Gen 8 Legendary is being overlooked. Even though not everyone may love the model for Enamorus, it’s easily one of Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ essential Pokémon every player needs to add to their collection.

In every single Pokémon generation, there is always an overlooked Pokémon that eventually finds popularity over time. This is especially the case with the regional forms which take the risk of giving already beloved Pokémon a new design – and Pokémon: Legends Arceus is no exception. With Gen 9 Pokémon Scarlet and Violet releasing this fall, it will be interesting to see how many overlooked and underrated Pokémon the new region ends up having.
