Girls5eva, which ended on high in season 2 with the ladies set out to embark on their own self-promoted tour, had an amazing list of guest stars in its first season, ranging from Stephen Colbert to Tina Fey as Dolly Parton. The cameos continued in season 2 with everyone from past and present Saturday Night Live (SNL) alumni to reality TV stars and well-known actors.
Some of the cameos involved multiple appearances while others were fleeting moments that might have been easy to miss. From men Wickie tried to recruit as boyfriends she could break up with immediately to Summer’s parents and a mysterious pop star who keeps her face covered, the cameos each added their own individual flair to the show.
9 Tim Meadows
Wickie is excited to be working on an album and finally be accepted into Raya, the dating app for the elite. But in true, overly dramatic fashion, she believes she won’t have time for a relationship anyway so she should fast-track the experience.
She meets with comedian, actor, and Saturday Night Live (SNL) alum Tim Meadows in a bar, and totally confuses him, acting like she has to break up with him when they had never even met or dated prior. She runs into him again, this time being brushed off by Meadows as he reveals that he successfully met someone else using the same app. It’s only a couple of short appearances but will elicit a twinge of nostalgia among those who watched SNL during his time on the show.
8 Joey Sasso
During her time trying to meet and break up with men all in one shot to spare herself from the agony of a relationship while preoccupied by being in “album mode,” Wickie runs into Joey Sasso, winner of the first season of the reality show. The Circle. Seemingly having connected on Bumble, she arranged the chance meeting only so she could break up with him.
Joey, who was one of the funniest cast members on The Circle, seemed understandably confused seeing as they never met and he hadn’t even said he was interested in dating her. It was a fun cameo that would only be appreciated by those who watched the Netflix hit show.
7 Heidi Gardner
Another SNL cast member, Heidi Gardner is currently on the sketch comedy show. And she has a short cameo as a mom named Cara. Dawn confronts Cara about only adding other mothers to the parents’ e-mail chain when making arrangements for school-related and extracurricular activities.
Rather than get defensive, Cara instantly begins to question if she is being subconsciously sexist by not adding the dads to the conversations, even when requested. As she runs through her internal thought process while speaking out loud, she admits that one reason she never added the fathers is that she is afraid she might sleep with some of them. Later, it is confirmed that she does, in fact, sleep with a number of the dads after adding them to the group chat.
6 Mario Cantone
Mario Cantone is one of those comedians and actors who fans recognize but can not quite place. He pokes fun at that while playing himself in a short cameo where he runs into Wickie in a local grocer and variety shop. Feeling inadequate because he beat her in an episode of Star Search in the 1990s, Wickie forces him to engage in an inpromptu performance for the handful of people enjoying coffee in the shop. She wants to claim the crown she believes was always rightfully hers.
He does a short stand-up bit while Wickie sings at the top of her lungs, only to have the shop owner pick Mario as the winner again. Mario has a reassuring conversation with her, however, telling Wickie that he only won all those years ago because a singer won the year prior and it was in the best interest of the show to shake things up each season.
5 Crissa Jackson
Crissa Jackson is already famous as a former Harlem Globetrotter. But fans may also know her as a player on the fourth season of reality show The Circle. Not surprisingly, she is The Circle season 4 cast member with the most Instagram followers (Spice Girls, excepted, of course.)
She is only seen for a moment in a scene when Summer encourages Gloria to try and flirt with women on the set of Lil Stinker’s music video. Crissa is seated and twirling a basketball as Gloria approaches her talking about the details of a true crime murder podcast. Much like the other women Gloria approaches, Crissa is visibly confused as to why Gloria is talking about this random podcast.
4 Amy Sedaris
Amy Sedaris has a cameo in one episode as Summer’s deeply religious mother, who has arrived with her father in their Christian-themed bus to encourage their now-divorced daughter to wear a purity ring and commit to chastity until she finds her “number two. “
Hilariously, by the end, Summer figures out not only that she was conceived out of wedlock, but that her mother was a bit of a wild child who had an adventurous sex life before finding God.
3 Neil Flynn
Actor Neil Flynn appeared as Summer’s father, another devout religious man who, it turned out, had a secret wild and crazy life as well, despite trying to control Summer’s life and ensure she followed the path to righteousness.
In a hilarious scene, he walks with her down an aisle at a purity ceremony following her divorce, implying she should remain married to him until she finds her second husband. This blissful ignorance about him and his wife’s hypocrisy is what makes this couple so funny.
2 Amber Ruffin
The secret superstar singer who, Sia-style, always keeps her face covered, had Gloria convinced that it was actually their former bandmate Ashley, pursuing a solo career after faking her own death. She is determined to prove that Ashley did not really die.
But when she and Wickie corner the woman in a public bathroom in an attempt to confirm the suspicion and pull off her head cover, it’s revealed to be someone else. It’s Beth, a stereotypical young girl who got a career as a singer thanks to her dad. She is visibly upset and pouty about the air of mystery being ruined and has her team make the women sign NDAs confirming they will never reveal her true identity. The character is played by the hilarious Amber Ruffin, one of the many comedians we can not believe have never hosted SNL.
1 Property Brothers
In the new season, the ladies are finally signed to a real label, but it is hilariously called Property Records, owned by the Property Brothers as part of their efforts to branch out and expand their empire. The ladies first see the twins on screen when they learn that Girls5eva was not chosen to be the opening act for Collab.
Angry and upset, they go to see the twins on the set of their show where Gloria – one of the best characters on Girls5eva – gets into a violent fist fight with Jonathan. As it turns out, according to the show, martial arts is a secret passion of his.
