Marvel recently broke the Internet with the announcement that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be re-released into theaters on September 2 with lots of extra scenes and featurettes.
Spider-Man is one of the most popular superheroes of all time, with kids and adults across the world falling in love with the joke-cracking Webhead. As a beloved character, Spider-Man has definitely become the subject of a lot of memes, and so have the comics. Some of these memes perfectly capture Spider-Man as a character and the style of his comics.
Confused and Chaotic Energy
As a teenager who grows into a young adult as he navigates his superhero responsibilities, Spider-Man tends to be an extremely chaotic character. Though he is extremely intelligent, the Webheaded Hero certainly has more than his fair share of clueless moments.
This meme showcases one of the instances in which Spider-Man does not know what to do, but it also shows his neverending enthusiasm and excitement just to be a superhero. The way he sometimes struggles just to function properly makes Spider-Man even more relatable. Confusion and a general sense of being overwhelmed and in over his head is a classic Spider-Man comic trait that overlaps into the movies sometimes.
Both Peter Parker and Spider-Man are constantly getting themselves into sticky situations. Impulsive, excitable, and brave, Spider-Man tends to leap headfirst into situations prematurely, and this meme sums up that aspect of his personality very well.
The Spider-Man comics and storylines are often quite humorous, and this humor is also showcased well in this meme. They make readers laugh almost every time, as they utilize humor and irony to personalize and characterize Spider-Man. This meme is particularly funny, as it shows Spider-Man’s tendency to talk a lot, his sarcasm, and his uncanny ability to get himself into trouble.
He’s Got The Jokes
Peter Parker’s Spider-Man is definitely one of the funniest comic characters, due to his immature sense of humor, his sassiness, and his comedic timing. This meme pokes fun at Spider-Man’s undying and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor, showing him going on a random rant about making himself underwear out of his webbing and the somewhat blank stares of Captain America, Wolverine, and Spider-Woman.
The above meme sums up Spider-Man’s personality and his relationship with the heroes he works with perfectly. He often fills the role of the little brother, cracking silly jokes and making everyone roll their eyes, often embarrassing himself in front of people he wishes to impress.
Spider-Man: Sass Master
Spider-Man’s wit and tendency to talk nonstop during fights is something he’s famous for. While it’s absolutely hilarious to read, his habit of mouthing off constantly must be obnoxious for the villains he fights and even the heroes he teams up with.
This comic panel meme portrays Spider-Man’s annoying habit very well, showing his sassy remark and the angry reaction of the villain. This kind of interaction is classic, wherein Spider-Man makes silly jokes about his enemy. In the comics, his joking and childish sense of humor are some of the things that make the character unique and entertaining.
The King of Roasts
Spider-Man is the king of roasts. Most superheroes are either too mature or too serious to poke fun at their enemies (and sometimes even their allies,) but not Spidey. In the comics, he roasts his teammates and whoever they’re fighting without the blink of an eye, spouting out sarcastic insults that he’s made for it.
This meme about Spider-Man and Deadpool captures both their dynamic and his love of rudely roasting people. Spider-Man does not hesitate to insult his enemies, even when it seems inappropriate. In fact, the comics just prove that that’s Spider-Man’s favorite time to take delight in roasting his enemies and his friends. Though this hasn’t transitioned to the movies as much, roasting people is one of Spider-Man’s most defining characteristics, as he has been doing it since his first introduction as a Marvel comics character.
Don’t Underestimate Him
It’s easy to underestimate Spider-Man, especially if you do not know who he is and what his powers are. Early on in the comics, a lot of people brushed off Spider-Man as a threat due to his young age, inexperience, and the fact that he names himself after an arachnid. Underestimating him is a huge mistake, as he has super-strength, climbing abilities, spider-sense, and webbing.
This meme sums up most people’s reactions to seeing a teenager or young adult with the Avengers, as they are usually shocked, then realize how capable he is. It’s especially funny, especially when considering the MCU version of Spider-Man as well.
Everybody Knows Who Spider-Man Is
In the comics, people keep finding out who Spider-Man actually is. Mary-Jane Watson figures it out, Aunt May has known for years, and plenty of villains find out too, including Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and even J. Jonah Jameson. In The Amazing Spider-Man # 87, Peter actually tells a bunch of his close friends that he’s Spider-Man.
The Spider-Man comics are the only ones that continuously reveal that people know, have found out, or figured out his secret identity. This meme points out that flaw, creating a scene between the Avengers and Spider-Man where he accidentally reveals his identity to them.
Everyone Loves Spider-Man
After getting over his initial teenage insecurities, Peter Parker becomes a more confident person and superhero. In the comics, he often exudes “I’m the best,” energy because he knows he’s good. A man who is one of the most loved superheroes of all time is bound to be a tiny bit arrogant.
This meme perfectly sums up Spider-Man’s attitude as well as the general tone of the comics. He is one of the best, and he knows it. The audience knows it, too, which is why the comics do such a good job of characterizing Spider-Man.
