10 Book Quotes That Should Have Been In The TV Show

Posted on July 4, 2022 By admin No Comments on 10 Book Quotes That Should Have Been In The TV Show

It’s the season of reboots, and the juiciest show of the ’00s and Twenty-Tens, Gossip Girl got a revival in 2021. With a second season on the way, it’s a good time to pay ode to the original drama which started the sensation. Based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, Chuck, Blair, Serena, Nate, and Dan’s gang captured imaginations worldwide, especially with the salacious gossip and scandalous actions.

The show differed greatly from the books, but the notoriety and sin existed in both mediums equally. The Gossip Girl books were full of catty quips and sassy comebacks which would have fit right into the series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

10 Gossip Girl

“I Know Hate Is A Strong Word And Everything, But It’s Okay: We’re Teenagers.”

The wealthy inhabitants of the Upper East Side were quite brutal and had no qualms in double-crossing each other. Just like the show, the books also had ruthless rich teenagers scrambling to get ahead of each other by hook or by crook.

This quote would be a perfect line for Blair to say on the show, even though it was mentioned by the omniscient Gossip Girl in the books. Everything was forgiven because these teens were young and privileged.

9 Gossip Girl

“Oh, Don’t Be A Spoilsport. Gossip Is Sexy. Gossip Is Good. Not Everybody Does It, But Everybody Should! ”

The axis that the gang’s world rotated on was rumors and gossip, and that was what made the infamous website also thrive amongst this Manhattan clique. In the books, Dan the “nice guy” wondered how and when his best friend Vanessa started spreading lies and half-truths about people, and Gossip Girl’s monologue extolled the benefits of tittle-tattle.

The show also focused on sexiness and scandal, so this could very well have become one of GG’s signature lines that they could adopt in the series.

8 Gossip Girl

“Give A Girl A Boyfriend And She Becomes A Total Expert On Relationships.”

Nate and Serena embrace

The iconic Gossip Girl couples and their legendary romances were a big part of the show, and that was a big part of the books too, albeit with different couples. On-screen, Serena and Blair fought over Dan and Nate, and the earlier seasons were just the beginnings of their love lives.

This snarky commentary would have worked perfectly between the two besties advising each other on relationships, or even between Serena and Jenny while GG looked on.

7 Vanessa Abrams

“She Didn’t Just Want A Good Boyfriend. She Wanted That Thing Gustav Klimt Had Captured So Perfectly In The Kiss. That Radiant, Electric, Hold-Me-Tight-So-I Don’t-Fall-From-Up-Here -In-The-Sky Feeling Of Being In Love. “

Not all of Gossip Girl was about twists, drama, and lies. The girls really did dedicate themselves to the men they loved or at least hoped to have epic romances that would be the talk of the town for years to come. Even Vanessa, an outsider in the UES gang, dreamed of her great love.

Considering she and Nate had a spark in both the book and the show, this inner stream of thought would have fit her character and the series perfectly since Vanessa was artistically inclined. It’s also a beautiful description of the feeling she craved.

6 Blair Waldorf

“Oh My God, She Couldn’t Help Thinking. I Have Hairy Legs And I’m Going To Die Alone. ”

Blair Waldorf was exceedingly smart and intelligent, but she was also vain and advocated strict (and slightly antiquated) beauty standards for others and herself. Her inner monologue was quite entertaining in the books, and while fans got to hear only her scheming in the show, this line would have been just perfect for the Queen B to say on screen.

Dying alone was a fear of hers, as was looking bad in front of anyone. The Waldorf scion liked looking prim and proper, even if it was so she could pick on others for being frumpy.

5 Gossip Girl

“Who Has Time To Make Up Stories When The Truth Is So Much More Interesting?”

Chuck and Blair in Gossip Girl Season One

This quote is the perfect embodiment of life on the Upper East Side. Chuck, Blair, Serena, Nate, and Dan were always up to no good, which was why the nefarious blogger had so much material to process and disseminate into the world.

Their parties, schemes, and plots were too outrageous to be true, yet they always were. Even Gossip Girl could not make up wilder exploits than the ones that the gang lived through every day. This missive would have been a great addition to GG’s usual commentary.

4 Dan Humphrey

“It’s Physics. Pure Physics, I’m Falling Fast And Faster Still. So Fall With Me. Fall Down With Me. And Stay. ”

Joe Is Dan 10 Years Later - You and Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl Viewers always heard how great a writer Dan Humphrey was, and he attained some very great achievements (making it to the New Yorker is no mean feat), but they rarely got to hear his written work, if ever at all.

This was one of Dan’s many poems that were present in the books by Cecily von Ziegesar. Short and sweet, it displayed his immense literary talent, and fans would have loved to see him recite this to the love of his life, Serena, perhaps during or before their wedding scene.

3 Blair Waldorf

“It Was So Typical. Whenever Blair Did Anything Nice For Someone Else, She Usually Regretted It. Which Kind Of Explained Why She Was Such AB **** Most Of The Time. ”

The show did a decent job of humanizing Blair to an extent with her back story, but there was little acknowledgment from her end about her mean girl behavior. It would have made for an entertaining exchange between Blair and a newbie who had to face her wrath.

This quote comprises just the right amount of ennui and sass that she was known for, and would also be quite amusing to hear for viewers of the show.

2 Gossip Girl

“May Your Valentine’s Day Be Filled With Adoration, Pampering, And A Pair Of Gorgeous, Tiny-Heeled Jimmy Choo Sandals That Are Completely Useless In This Weather. Just Remember: You Are Totally Worth It. ”

Gossip Girl had a way with words (which made total sense because she was actually Dan Humphrey) and each holiday was marked by a special wish from her end before or after an episode. This Valentine’s Day missive by the blogger is hilarious and accurate, which would have fit right in the show.

The privilege and excesses of the one percent made itself perfectly clear here, which was perhaps the intention. Valentine’s Day for the UES crowd was just another event to splurge.

1 Nate Archibald

“Next Year At This Time, We’re Going To Be Hanging Out With Some New Bunch Of Friends We Met At College. People We Don’t Even Know Exist Yet. ”

The Golden Boy of Gossip Girl was sweet and righteous, but he also had a certain depth to him which the show could not bring through. He was also quite shallow in the books, but this quote really highlighted his thoughtful and compassionate side which seemed missing.

Nate really did love his friends a lot and felt sad to see them go away to college soon. It was also a realistic quote because it is hard to stay in touch with high school friends once college begins.
