Warning! Spoilers ahead for Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series has finally wrapped up its six-episode run on Disney + with a wildly satisfying conclusion. The Star Wars spin-off was initially conceived as a limited series that would only last for one season, and the show closes out its ongoing storylines in the finale.
But the door is still open for a possible second season. It’s still a decade before the events of the original trilogy, so there are plenty more stories to tell about the legendary Jedi. Despite resolving its narrative, Obi-Wan Kenobi contains a few key setups for a potential season 2.
10 Vader Reaffirms His Allegiance To The Emperor
Ian McDiarmid makes a fan-pleasing cameo appearance as the Senate himself, Emperor Palpatine, in the finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi. He video-calls his apprentice Darth Vader to question why he’s so desperate to track down Obi-Wan and exact revenge. He worries that he’s still hung up on his life as Anakin Skywalker.
Vader tells the Emperor, “Kenobi means nothing; I serve only you, Master, ”and agrees to give up the search for his former friend. The partnership of Vader and the Emperor could either raise the stakes for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 or set up a whole Imperial spin-off series of their own.
9 Obi-Wan Offers To Help The Organas Again In The Future
After saying goodbye to Leia in the finale, Obi-Wan tells her adoptive parents, “If you ever need my help again, you know where to find me.” Leia is safe for now, but as long as she’s the estranged daughter of Darth Vader and a key member of the Rebellion, she’ll never be completely safe.
Ewan McGregor’s back-and-forth with Vivien Lyra Blair has been so much fun that Star Wars fans would happily watch these two on another intergalactic adventure a couple of years down the line.
8 The Path Escapes
A couple of episodes into its run, Obi-Wan Kenobi introduced “the Path,” an underground community of Jedi fugitives and their sympathizers all seeking refuge from the Empire’s wrath.
In the finale, the Empire gave up their pursuit of the Path when Obi-Wan took his own ship for a joyride, so they managed to escape under the leadership of Roken. In the first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Path saved Obi-Wan. In a possible second season, Obi-Wan could return the favor.
7 Aunt Beru Is A Badass
After finding out that Reva is coming to the farm to get Luke, Uncle Owen is petrified with fear and wants to recruit some help – but Aunt Beru turns out to be a badass.
Beru does not want to endanger anyone else, so she refuses to recruit any locals to help. She’s confident that they can take on the Third Sister alone. She immediately makes a battle plan, arming herself and Owen and waiting for night to fall. In season 2, badass Beru could get in on even more of the action.
6 The Grand Inquisitor Is Still Alive
While Reva has abandoned her Imperial duties, the Grand Inquisitor – revealed in the fifth episode to be alive and well – is still hunting Jedi and serving Vader.
The Grand Inquisitor never got to clash blades with Kenobi in the first season of the show, but now, the writers can include that confrontation in season 2.
5 Leia Resumes Her Duties As A Princess On Alderaan
Before she was abducted from Alderaan, Star Wars fans got a glimpse of 10-year-old Leia’s life on her home planet. She’s bored of her royal duties and dreams of leaving the palace behind to have adventures in outer space.
After having an adventure in outer space and longing to return home, Leia is shown to have a newfound appreciation for her role as a princess. She realized that she could use her power to affect positive change. Leia could team up with Obi-Wan again, or she could just star in her own series alongside her trusty droid LOLA.
4 Reva Has Renounced The Dark Side
In the penultimate episode of Obi-Wan KenobiReva revealed that she’s a former Jedi youngling who, like It’s Always Sunny‘s Mac, has been playing both sides so that she always comes out on top.
After doing some questionable things throughout the series in pursuit of vengeance, Reva showed mercy and returned to the light side when she spared Luke in the finale. In a possible season 2, a newly redeemed Reva could team up with Kenobi to help other Jedi in need.
3 Obi-Wan Has Given Up On Trying To Save Anakin
Throughout Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s run, Obi-Wan held out hope that he could still save Anakin. A decade after their duel on Mustafar, he believed his brother was still in there somewhere and that he could bring him back from the dark side. But after their rematch, he deems Vader to be too far gone and gives up hope that Anakin can be saved.
This dark turn makes Luke’s arc even more powerful. When he faced his father in the Emperor’s throne room, Luke refused to give up the same hope that Obi-Wan gave up, and it ended up saving the world.
2 Qui-Gon’s Force Ghost Finally Shows Up
From the moment that Obi-Wan tried to reach out to his late master’s ghost in the first episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars fans have anxiously awaited Liam Neeson’s inevitable cameo appearance as Qui-Gon Jinn. As it turns out, he did not show up until the very end of the series.
Now that Obi-Wan’s communication with Qui-Gon’s spirit has been established, Neeson could appear much more prominently in a potential second season.
1 Uncle Owen Allows Obi-Wan To Meet Luke
One of the finale episode’s most heartwarming moments sees Owen allowing Obi-Wan to meet Luke for the first time since he dropped him off as a baby. Obi-Wan approaches Luke and introduces himself with the perfect icebreaker: “Hello there.”
By the time the original trilogy rolls around, Luke is friends with Obi-Wan (against Owen’s wishes). A second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi could bridge the gap between his “Hello there” greeting and the well-established friendship seen in the original movie.
