Posted on June 3, 2022 By admin No Comments on 10 Actors Who Should Play Wiccan And Hulkling In The MCU

After the events of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, There is no doubt that Marvel is slowly building to cover the Young Avengers. Cassie Lang, America Chavez, Kate Bishop, and Elijah Bradley, have already been introduced into the MCU. While Billy and Tommy Maximoff have also technically been introduced in WandaVision it remains to be seen who will play the more grown-up versions of them when this team inevitably makes their debut.

Hulking is another founding member of the Young Avengers but has yet to be introduced into the MCU. In the comics, Billy Kaplan (Wiccan) is involved in a romantic relationship with Teddy Altman (Hulkling). As one of the most prolific representations of the LGBTQ + community, Wiccan and Hulkling are fan favorites. The fans have been very vocal about wanting to see these two together in live-action as well as who they would like to see play these roles.

Wiccan

Julian Hillard

Julian Hilliard as Billy Maximoff Senor Scratchy WandaVision

Julian Hillard plays young Billy Maximoff, but after the events of WandaVision and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The future of Wiccan in the MCU remains a mystery. It may take a few years for the full plan to come to fruition, and by that point, Hillard may be old enough to continue his role.

It would certainly be rewarding to fans to see the same actor portray the character as he grows up. This would allow Hillard to spend some time honing his craft and gaining experience to play such a powerful and important character in the MCU. This choice is unlikely, however, as it seems the Young Avengers are appearing more and more frequently in the MCU. No matter what happens Hillard left an impression on fans with his portrayal of young Wiccan.

Joshua Rush

Joshua Rush became the first openly gay character to appear on the Disney Channel when he was cast in Andi Mack. When discussing who could play the young sorcerer, his name is often mentioned because he not only resembles the character but he also shares a Jewish heritage with Wiccan from the comics.

Rush is young enough that he would be able to play the character for years, and it would allow the movies to go beyond the comics with the type of stories they could tell. While he has yet to break into any major film scene, Rush certainly has the talent and capability to bring a beloved young superhero to life.

Timothee Chalamet

Timothee Chalamet in Dune

The biggest star on this list, it is only a matter of time before Timothee Chalamet joins the MCU. While substantially older than the comic book character, Chalamet could easily age himself down enough to make a believable Wiccan for the MCU with some clothing and make-up.

Chalamet’s involvement in the new Dune franchise as well as the upcoming Wonka film could complicate things if he were to accept a role in the MCU. However, the energy he brings to all his roles would lend itself well to the iconic role, and he would easily be able to lead a team of young superheroes.

Finn Wolfhard

Stranger Things Mike Wheeler Season 4 Trailer

Finn Wolfhard is a rising star already starring in major franchises like Stranger Things, Itand Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It is only a matter of a time before he is swooped up by Marvel for a role. It was already rumored that Wolfhard was joining the MCU, but confirmation on what character remains to be seen.

Wiccan is extremely powerful in the comics and the MCU likely has major plans for this character, so it only makes sense that Marvel may seek to cast a popular and well-known actor for the role that could play it for a long time. One thing is sure, no matter who Wolfhard ends up playing in the MCU it is going to be a success.

Joe Locke

A recent fan favorite for Wiccan, Joe Locke rose to prominence with the recent popularity of Netflix hit Heartstopper where he plays Charlie Spring, a young gay teen who eventually falls in love with Nick Nelson, a seemingly straight jock.

The character of Charlie Spring shares a lot of personality traits with Wiccan. Both characters are polite and respectful and often get easily rattled with facing difficult scenarios. Many Heartstopper fans have been campaigning for Kit Connor to be cast as Hulkling alongside him. Additionally, with all the controversy around straight actors playing gay characters, it would be refreshing and rewarding to see a talented young gay actor play Wiccan in the MCU.

Hulkling

Walker Scobell

Walker Scobell, though young, is no stranger to big action movies. He managed to hold his own against Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project and has recently been cast as Percy Jackson in the upcoming Disney + series. If Marvel does indeed hold off on introducing Hulkling for a few years, Scobell would be a perfect fit.

He resembles the character and is also young enough that he would fit in well with the younger versions of Billy and Tommy. If cast he would be a great asset to the film. Scobell is very talented and will only get better with time. If Marvel does indeed hold off on introducing the Young Avengers for a few years Scobell will certainly be high up on the list for Hulkling.

Michael Cimino

Love Victor Michael Cimino

Skyrocketing to popularity in Love, Victor, Michael is no stranger to playing a powerful queer character. He is relatively young and shows great promise to grow as an actor, and stands to be a major star in the years to come.

Like many others on this list, Cimino does not have a lot of major acting roles, but this could be a good thing. Many of the actors who have been cast as the Young Avengers were relatively unknown beforehand, so this provides a great opportunity for actors to grow and develop alongside their characters in the franchise.

Derek Chadwick

Model Derek Chadwick posing for a photo.

While not widely known or experienced, Derek Chadwick has been rumored to be portraying Hulkling in the MCU. He would be a great counterpart to Timothee Chalamet’s older version of Wiccan.

The 26-year-old actor and model look as if Hulkling was ripped right out of the comics and placed into our world. Hulkling and Wiccan in the comics have a very deep and loving relationship, so an older portrayal of them would allow this to be represented in live-action and would bring much-needed representation to an often lacking medium.

Nicholas Hamilton

Nicholas Hamilton captured fans’ attention for his portrayal of Henry Bowers in IT. Hulkling is a super-strong shape-shifting alien with a fighting style that models the Hulk who also has a soft and affectionate side, so it would be fun to see Hamilton play a superhero with such a vast range.

He certainly has the look and physicality to play Hulkling, and like similar entries on this list, he is young enough that he could continue to play this role for years. Hamilton also recently came out as gay, so this would also add some authenticity to the role and serve to diversify the MCU as that has been one of its main goals for these newer projects.

Kit Connor

Nick Sits In Form In Heartstopper

Kit Connor’s portrayal of bisexual jock Nick Nelson in Heartstopper stole audiences’ hearts and managed to accurately represent what it feels like when someone starts questioning their sexuality. Almost immediately after Heartstopper debuted on Netflix fans began pointing out the similarities between the couples Wiccan and Hulkling and Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. They not only match in appearances, but the relationship between the two is very reminiscent of Wiccan and Hulkling in the comics.

Kit Connor has the build to perfectly portray the shapeshifting hero, who most often presents with blonde hair and muscles. Being that Hulkling is physically bigger he often places himself as sort of a protector for Wiccan, which is similar to how Kit Connor portrays the character Nick Nelson as a protector for Charlie in Heartstopper.
